hide.me VPN and VTI announce expanded Trust Principles

In 2015, we became one of the first VPN providers to ever be independently audited. We took this step because we want to offer the most secure and privacy focussed service we possibly can. This is also why we joined the i2coaliton and the VPN Trust Initiative. And now we’re happy to share that the VTI is expanding its Trust Principles, in the hope of improving the VPN industry for everyone.

What are the i2coaliton and the VTI?

The i2Coalition or Internet Infrastructure Coalition wants to give a voice to those who build the infrastructure of the internet. The VPN Trust Initiative (VTI) is a consortium of VPN business leaders that want to improve the safety and quality of service for every single VPN user.

If you would like to learn more about the i2coaliton, VTI, and how hide.me VPN fits in. Please take a look at our initial announcement blog here.

What are the Trust Principles supposed to do?

The VTI conceived the Trust Principles to create standardised industry benchmarks for VPN providers, to help develop comprehensive best practices. This is with the ultimate goal of educating users, providing a better and safer experience for users, and fostering trust.

The Expanded Trust Principles

This list was developed by a consortium of VPN business leaders. These Trust Principals will provide comprehensive guidelines for delivering a VPN service in the following five areas:

● Security – The user can be assured that their browsing and data go to sites and applications where they intend it to go. There is no syphoning of data which is possible on a shared network or public Wi-Fi.

● Privacy – There’s a lot that users give up when simply connecting to the Internet, and a VPN ensures the user’s identity and location are not revealed to advertisers, hackers, and others through their IP address, nor are logs of their activity kept.

● Advertising Practices – VPNs will not make false claims about their services and provide transparency to customers so that they can make informed decisions about their security and privacy.

● Disclosure and Transparency – A user will know if data from them is collected and if so, how it will be used, what other business units and/or third parties have access to that data, and why.

● Social responsibility – VPN providers will promote VPN technology to support access to the global Internet and freedom of expression
