We are disappointed to have to announce that hide.me VPN will now be phasing out our Indian VPN servers. This is due to a newly passed law in India that makes operating a zero-log VPN impossible.
What is the new law?
A new law was passed in India that now requires all VPN providers to keep 5 years’ worth of logs on their users. This new law is set to come into effect on the 27th of June 2022.
As a zero-log VPN company, this is something we cannot agree to. It puts the safety and privacy of our users at risk. Therefore, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop operating any VPN servers within India.
What does that mean for me?
For those based in India, do not worry. You can still use hide.me VPN as you normally would, the only difference is that there are no Indian servers for you to connect to anymore.
If you were not already using any Indian VPN servers, then you don’t have to worry about this impacting you at all.
We will continue to maintain privacy and security for our users
It is a real shame that India has decided to implement this new law that is diametrically opposed to what a VPN is supposed to offer.
We have always been and always will be a zero-log VPN. Storing logs is a major privacy violation and so it is our only choice to remove operations from India. Rest assured that our service will continue as normal, with zero logs and industry-leading security.
Hopefully, in time, this new law can be repealed and we can once again operate servers in India. Until then, we will have to forgo them.
