(CNN)A new Senate report reveals previously unknown details about the stunning security breakdowns ahead of the January 6 US Capitol attack, adding an authoritative emphasis to previous evidence that there were massive intelligence failures, critical miscommunications, and unheeded warnings that ultimately led to the chaotic response that day.

But at the same time, there are several glaring omissions in the report, including any examination of Donald Trump's role in the riots, raising questions about whether lawmakers, in their quest for bipartisanship, exposed the limits of a Congress divided and unable to agree on certain truths, particularly those related to the former President's actions.

This 95-page report is the first comprehensive offering from the long list of Senate and House committees that are investigating various matters related to the Capitol insurrection.
It's by far one of the most thorough fact-finding efforts and was released Tuesday in a bipartisan fashion.
But as comprehensive as it is, it only examined one piece of the bigger puzzle. It looked at the "security, planning and response failures" by law enforcement.

But what about efforts by extremist groups to plan for violence in DC? What about former President Donald Trump and the Republican officials who fanned the flames? Congress isn't equipped to probe these issues.

The Capitol riot never should have happened.
The warning signs were there. In fact, they were incredibly public.
The feds knew. The Capitol Police knew. And yet, thanks to sheer incompetence, the officers were not prepared for the violent onslaught that led to five deaths.

These are the findings of two Senate committees, backed by members of both parties in a rare act of bipartisanship. Our media and political ecosystem has been so focused on whether Donald Trump was responsible, or Republican lawmakers, and whether Congress should create its own commission that we’ve lost sight of the massive failures leading up to Jan. 6.

"The U.S. Capitol Police had specific intelligence that supporters of President Donald Trump planned to mount an armed invasion of the Capitol at least two weeks before the Jan. 6 riot…but a series of omissions and miscommunications kept that information from reaching front-line officers targeted by the violence."

Various officials said they were concerned about the "optics" of such a display of military force. What a short-sighted view that turned out to be.

According to the report, Capitol Police intel officials knew as early as Dec. 21 that some protesters planned to come with guns and were sharing maps of the domed building online and discussing the various entry points. But that info was shared only with top commanders and went unmentioned in later security assessments on Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. A Jan. 3 report spoke only of "the possibility that the protesters may be inclined to become violent."

Shooter remembers when 9/11 was blamed in part on the failure of intelligence agencies (there's an oxymoron) to communicate with each other. They all had pieces of the puzzle that individually didn't mean much, but together would have given a much better picture of what was going on.

The solution was to roll almost all of the intelligence agencies (Shooter almost gags every time he writes that) into one massive Federal Agency, called the Department of Homeland Security, or DHS.

DHS is the biggest clusterfuck in history. Massive over reach, no viable oversight, nearly unlimited budget and no direct responsibilities to anyone. It is a govt entity tailor made for corruption and grift.

 

Shooter has a confession. Briefly, he worked with DHS as part of an audit process to evaluate high threat environments. You know, nuclear plants, hospitals, large public venues. The idea was, to bring in security experts to advise the executives on ways to avoid being the next 9/11. Everything from physical security to how to spot a terrorist with a bomb to how best to background check non employees who had to have access.

Anyway, he found that the DHS people were really good at their jobs, and except for a preoccupation with their government pension, were dedicated public servants who genuinely cared that they get the job done right.

The problem was the bureaucracy and rules they worked under. Nonsense like, couldn't check a bag and ask government to pay for it, even if the reason one had an extra bag was all the extra paper and tools the bureaucracy required they carry. Couldn't tell some executive that his assistant was in fact a competitor's spy because it didn't fall under "security".
Just a lot of nonsense that got in the way of doing the job they were there to do.

So, if you look at the debt run up by presidents in this century you'll discover that despicables have done a far better job of running up the debt, notably, Obama added almost $10 TRILLION, Trump added some $5 TRILLION, and if biden/harris get their way they'll add $8 TRILLION to the debt in their first YEAR.

 

Let's not pretend we are so stupid and ignorant we can't see the truth. George W Bush inherited a budget surplus, cut taxes, ended up doubling the national debt with two wars they kept off the books. While President Obama inherited the Great Rescission after the greed and corruption of Wall Street and the big banks crashed the US and world economy. And then like all good conservative/Republicans ran to the federal government and the taxpayers to bail them out. President Obama inherited a trillion dollar budget deficit from Bush and also inherited what would quickly become a 10% unemployment rate which required increased spending to stop the economic free fall.

Then when President Obama left office the unemployment was below 5% and the budget deficit was down to $500 billion. Trump inherited a growing economy and falling unemployment rate, cut taxes with no real benefits and was running a trillion deficit before anyone even heard of
COVID 19.

Then Biden comes in and inherited the most mismanaged and deadly public health crises in 100 years and collapsed economy.

Its just obvious and historical fact. Conservative/Republicans don't just explode the deficit and debt. Then they also collapse the economy and then Democrats have to come in and clean up their messes. And treasonous conservative/Republicans try to push the lie its Democrats increasing the deficit and debt which is actually the cost of their own greed and corruption.

Feds arrest Three Percenter militia members for Capitol insurrection — including Roger Stone body guards: report

The Department of Justice announced the arrest of six members of the Three Percent militia who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

According to Politico and Reuters, the indictment was handed down Wednesday and made public Thursday.

"About 30 people - including members of two other right-wing groups, The Oath Keepers and The Proud Boys - have been accused of conspiracy, the most serious charges related to the riot," said Reuters. "Those pending cases are the largest and most complex of the roughly 500 brought by the Justice Department since the attack. The other Three Percenters charged were Eric Scott Warner, Felipe Antonio 'Tony' Martinez, Derek Kinnison and Ronald Mele."

Charges for the accused include conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding and unauthorized entry to a Secret Service-restricted area with weapons, which is only applied to a few of the men.

Alan Hostetter and Russell Taylor were two men seen the day before the attack with Roger Stone outside of the Trump Hotel. They claimed to be providing security for Stone, who purports to be an adviser to Trump.

Hostetter was a La Habra, California police chief.

Capitol rioter's attorney goes off on Trump for 'letting the dummies take the hit' while he went golfing at Mar-a-Lago

After earlier comparing former president Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, the attorney for one of the Capitol rioters went on a rant at the end of an interview with CNN host John Berman in which he railed at Trump for sending "dummies" to do his dirty work in an effort to void the 2020 presidential election.

After his client, Anthony Antonio, carefully parsed his words in an effort to apologize for his actions -- while at the same time admitting he went to Washington, D.C., on Jan 6th because the then-president was calling for people to show up -- Antonio's lawyer, Joseph Hurley went on an extended attack on Trump.

Asked if Trump should be held accountable for the Jan 6th insurrection, Antonio conceded, "I have my day in court and do I think he's held responsible for this? I think he should be held responsible -- we're all responsible for our own actions, and I do think he should be held responsible," before adding, "I trust our legal system to do what they see fit when it comes to his actions that day."

Turning to the attorney, Berman asked, "Counselor, what do you think of that? Should the former president be held to account for what happened?"

"Are you asking me? There ain't no doubt about it, and I'm sitting here just with Anthony, why won't you just say yes or no?" he asked his client.

"He is such a person that doesn't hurt people that he's -- he can't come out of himself to criticize and that's the only reason I represented him because the rest of them are criminals, and they are where they should be and will be more joining them," Hurley exclaimed. "So absolutely, 100 percent, but as all cowards do, we've got our bone spurs, stay down in Mar-a-Lago, play a few rounds of golf, let everyone else take the hit and the dummies take the hit. That's what's totally inexplicable; they take the hit and keep following along until they get chopped down one by one, and there's none left. Thank god whenever that ends."
