How To Restore Internet Connectivity On Windows?
Last modified: November 21, 2020
The main reason for losing internet connectivity on a Windows computer after disconnecting/uninstalling is due to improper shutdown of hide.me VPN client. Our VPN client installs our DNS server in your computer’s network settings upon connection and removes them upon successful disconnection.
If you haven’t, please ensure the hide.me VPN client is not running at your taskbar, restart your computer, Internet router and see if you can get online before trying the steps below:
STEP 1: Reset Windows’ DNS settings
Please ensure that you’re logged into your computer using an administrator account. Next, press and hold the WinKey and R button to launch the Run window.
Type cmd into the box and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter on your keyboard to run the command as an administrator.
At the Command Prompt window, type in the commands below one at a time followed by the Enter key on your keyboard.
If you’re on a Wi-Fi (Wireless) connection;
netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Wi-Fi" dhcp
netsh interface ipv6 set dnsservers "Wi-Fi" dhcp
If you’re on an Ethernet (Wired) connection;
netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Ethernet" dhcp
netsh interface ipv6 set dnsservers "Ethernet" dhcp
Once you’ve done so, see if you can get online now? If you can’t, proceed to the step below:
STEP 2: Flush your Windows’ DNS cache & Reset TCP/IP
In the same Command Prompt window, type in the commands below one at a time followed by the Enter key on your keyboard.
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset
Next, restart your computer and see if you can get online now? If you can’t, proceed to step# 3.
STEP 3: Configure Windows to use Cloudfare’s DNS addresses
Configure your computer to use Cloudfare’s DNS addresses. Full instructions on how to do so can be found at the link below:
