A: Find the instructions for SOCKS proxy installation in the following lines and specifically at the bottom of this article.
The server address is socks.hide.me
and the port is 1080
.
In the following lines we will inform you about a few of things before you configure it.
When you setup SOCKS server on your Torrent client or browser, it cannot access the internet any other way than by using the SOCKS proxy. Our proxy server is available only to our Premium subscribers and when the client is connected to our VPN network. If your client disconnects from our VPN server, your Torrent client or browser can’t get to our SOCKS proxy and all traffic for it will stop. This is an extra security feature. That is the main reason for our SOCKS protocol support.
Now, SOCKS protocol also has his drawbacks and those are the UDP transfers. That may be the reason why some Torrents don’t work for you. You should find an option in your Torrent client, and tell it to use SOCKS for UDP transfers, after that the torrents that didn’t work should start to download. If the Torrent client does not support UDP over SOCKS, then these torrents won’t work.
uTorrent can do that, and our SOCKS proxy supports UDP. SOCKS can’t accept incoming connections and forward them to Torrent client. SOCKS is a proxy, and not a reverse proxy. There are often torrents with little seeders where users have computers behind the Firewalls/Home routers. This clients can’t connect to a client that uses SOCKS, and only UPnP without SOCKS will work.
In the end we offer two options: More security with less options, or Less security with more options. It is on users to decide what they want to use.
