What is “Have I been Pwned”?

Last modified: March 29, 2019

Have I been pwned

Have I been Pwned is a fantastic tool to figure out whether your email address and password has been included in data breaches.

When you choose a weak or a compromised password when you register with us, you will get the following error message.

have-i-been-pwned-error-message

In this case, you will have to choose a different password to resolve this.

How does it work?

When you login, we will check your password against haveibeenpwned database to see if it’s has been compromised on the Internet and if it does, our system will ask you to choose a different password.

i.e. If you entered a password like 12345678, our system will prompt you to choose a different password as 12345678 password has previously appeared in a data breach and should never be used.

Please click here for more details and you will also get an idea on how to use a password which is not listed in haveibeenpwned compromised passwords database.

Please note that you can’t:

  • Change a password to a leaked one.
  • Sign up using a leaked password.

Also, allowed characters for use in your password are:

!#$%&()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz|~

We would also suggest you to read up the blog post which can be found at the link below for some tips on how to choose a proper password.
